On October 12, 2022, within the Russian Energy Week, a session "Ways of energy transition for the Asia-Pacific countries" was held. The event was organized by the Russian Energy Agency of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation (REA), the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) with the support of Russia-ASEAN Business Council.

The session was moderated by the Rector of the Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, Ivan Lobanov. As speakers the event was attended by: Hongpeng Liu, Director of the Energy Division of UN ESCAP, Alexey Kulapin, CEO of REA, Ivan Polyakov, Chairman of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council, Carlos Sorreta, Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, Sinava Souphanouvong, Vice Minister of Energy and Mining of Laos, Nuki Agya Utama, Executive Director of the ASEAN Energy Center, Monyneath Vann, General Director of the General Directorate of Policy and Strategy, Ministry of Environment of Cambodia, Vsevolod Gavrilov, Managing Director of the Center for Digital GR Initiatives of Sberbank PJSC, Shixiang Gao, Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the Russia.

During the meeting, issues of transition to more active use of natural gas in the production process in ASEAN as the cleanest and most cost-effective energy resource; opportunities for technological cooperation with Russia; energy security issues in the ASEAN were discussed.

Following the meeting, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Russian Energy Agency and the ASEAN Energy Center.
