The Russia-ASEAN Business Council has launched a platform for collective energy security of Russia and the countries of Southeast Asia

25 october 2022

This was announced by the Chairman of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council Ivan Polyakov at a meeting with the Director General of the Russian Energy Agency (REA) of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation Alexey Kulapin.

He claimed that Russian fuel and energy companies have the opportunity to become a factor in the energy stability and security of the ASEAN countries.

Currently, the participation of Russian energy companies in fuel and energy projects in the ASEAN countries is very limited. However, there are significant competencies that will allow domestic enterprises to participate both in the exploration and development of oil and gas fields, and in large infrastructure projects, including a range of works to expand the use of LNG, nuclear power, hydropower, renewable energy sources. There is a lot of groundwork in the participation of Russian designers and engineering companies in ASEAN projects.

At the last international forum Russian Energy Week-2022 (REW-2022), Russia and the ASEAN countries spoke about the necessity to deepen and expand energy and technological cooperation, industrial cooperation, and increase the supply of Russian energy carriers to the Asia-Pacific region. The issues of localization of the activities of Russian companies on the territory of the ASEAN memeber states were considered, which would allow, together with Asian partners, to build a complex of necessary works and promptly respond to customer requests.

Following the negotiations on the sidelines of the REW-2022, the Russian Energy Agency and the Russia-ASEAN Business Council planned to implement practical steps to promote the platform for collective energy security in the Association countries. The next series of negotiations with potential partners will take place at the upcoming ASEAN Business and Investment Summit, which will be held on November 9-10 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on the eve of the ASEAN political summit.
