Intergovernmental Russian-Myanmar Commission

The delegation of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council took part in the 3rd meeting of the Intergovernmental Russian-Myanmar Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which took place on December 5, 2022 in Naypyidaw, Myanmar.

Following the meeting, the co–Chairs - Minister for Economic Development of the Russian Federation Maxim Reshetnikov and Minister of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations of Myanmar Kan Zaw signed a joint protocol. The document covers various areas of bilateral cooperation: agreements on cooperation in the customs sphere, in the field of sanitary and epidemiological welfare of the population, in the field of education and science. A separate section is devoted to expanding cooperation in the field of trade, we are talking about the supply of petroleum products, fertilizers, seeds, sunflower oil from the Russian Federation and the import of rice, seafood, fruit and vegetable products and other goods from Myanmar. The protocol also states readiness for cooperation in the field of energy and geological exploration, the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, in the implementation of major infrastructure projects, the use of information and telecommunication technologies, as well as business cooperation.

The Russia-Myanmar Business Forum was also held in the framework of intergovernmental commission meeting. During the business forum, round tables were held in the following areas: industry and agriculture; energy and geological exploration; banks and finance; IT and digital technologies; medicine and pharmaceuticals; tourism, transport and logistics.
