Business Briefing "Philippines: The Digital Bridgeway to ASEAN and the World"

On May 26, 2023, a seminar "Philippines: A Digital Bridge to ASEAN and the whole World" was held in Moscow, organized by the Russia-ASEAN Business Council, the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Russia, the Trade Mission of the Republic of the Philippines in Russia and the Digital Pilipinas Association.

"We see a significant reserve for deepening economic cooperation between Russia and the Philippines. To this end, in 2021, the Russian Chamber of Commerce opened a regional representative office in ASEAN in Jakarta, and in 2022, the Russian Trade Mission in the Republic of the Philippines began its work," said Elena Medvedeva, Deputy Director of the Department of External Relations of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

Chairman of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council Ivan Polyakov in his speech noted the importance of developing cooperation between the two countries in the field of introducing advanced digital technologies, including in industrial production, fintech and banking services, urban management, education and healthcare.

Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines to Russia Igor Baylen spoke in detail about the history of relations between Russia and the Philippines and called his country an attractive destination for doing business in such industries as services, shipbuilding, food processing, etc.

Kristin Umali, Trade Adviser of the Embassy of the Philippines in the Russian Federation, presented in detail the investment opportunities of the Republic of the Philippines. "There are a large number of technological production nodes in the Philippines in the field of information technology, the Internet of Things," Christine Umali emphasized during her speech.

Amor Maklang, head of the Digital Philipinas working group, Executive Director of the Fintech Association of the Republic of the Philippines, presented a presentation on the areas of work of Digital Pilipinas and said that Russian and Filipino specialists have serious potential for cooperation in the field of cybersecurity, the creation of educational platforms. She also called on Russian regions and higher education institutions to cooperate more closely with the Philippines.

Also, within the framework of the seminar, a cooperation agreement was signed between the Russia-ASEAN Business Council and Digital Philipinas.
